| St. Lucie Audubon Society is a community
of people who share an appreciation of Florida's wildlife
and outdoors, a concern for the stewardship of its
natural resources, and a commitment to a clean environment. Dedicated to both environmental education and advocacy
we:
- Work to protect wildlife and conserve Florida's
outstanding natural resources;
- Connect people and
nature through hands-on experiential learning;
- Build community through members and chapters.
History Formed in 1954 as a local chapter of the National
Audubon Society and Audubon of Florida, the St. Lucie
Audubon
Society is the oldest conservation group in the area.
St. Lucie Audubon Society was established by local
citizens
who enjoy the diverse population of resident
and migratory birds found in St. Lucie County and are
dedicated to providing environmental leadership and
awareness through fellowship, education, community
involvement,
and conservation programs in St. Lucie County and
surrounding areas.
Community Outreach The following local activities occur monthly October
through May.
- Program with an informative speaker on wildlife,
the environment or key legislative issues the first
Thursday of each month
- Monthly field trips
- "The Laughing Gull" published
8 times annually from October though May.
Environmental Education
- Sponsors of Audubon Adventures, an elementary teaching
curriculum provided to our community's schools
- Birdwatching education classes with accompaning
field trips
Community Involvement
- Annual Environmental School Science Project Award
- Participation in "Party in the Park" environmental
festival
- Earth Day participation
- The Least Tern Project
